Feng Shui for the Home: Creating Balance and Flow with John Lewis Poole

I recently had the pleasure of sharing these principles at a special event at John Lewis, Poole, alongside their expert Home Design Consultant. Together, we explored how to apply Feng Shui to key spaces in the home: the entrance, living room, and bedroom.

I had been really looking forward to this John Lewis, Poole event for a couple of months, so when the day finally came, obviously I was nervous as you never know how an event is going to be received especially when it has never been done before !

I arrived at John Lewis, Poole at 9am and met Sian (Home Design Expert) and we set up a living room and a bedroom as part of the event and areas of the home that is very important for the flow of energy and of course a space that we are proud of and want to spend time. Sian and I discussed how Feng Shui would link in with home design a few weeks ago and we did a brilliant job. Everything we both discussed linked so well. We picked soft furnishings that harness the power of Feng shui for the two spaces, the living room and bedroom.

I was really worried there may not be a good turn-out as the event was held on a Bank Holiday Saturday but that didn't stop the guests. There were a few there who didn't know anything about Feng Shui and there were some who new a little but wanted to learn more and I was definitely there to share the magical benefits of Feng Shui, which, of course is a topic I love speaking about.

So, If you're looking to bring more balance, harmony, and positive energy into your home, Feng Shui offers powerful tools to transform how your space feels—and how it supports you.

This event wasn’t just about creating a beautiful home—it was about creating homes that feel aligned with your life and goals. When your environment supports you, everything flows better—from your mood to your motivation.

The beautiful furnishings and styling from John Lewis gave the perfect backdrop for our conversation—elegant, welcoming, and a perfect match for the principles of Feng Shui.

We held a Q&A at the end and the one thing people were most shocked about was the advice about plants! Do not have fake plants in your home is my advice and this can be surprising to some as fake plants these days look so real and beautiful. However fake plants to not give off any energy at alland subconsciously when we look at fake plants in our home we know they are not living and trying to be something they are not.

Another great question was 'Can you have more than one focal point in the living room' - Yes you can as long as guest and family are able to gather around each focal point comfortably. This of course also depends on the size of your living room.

Feng Shui Tips for a Welcoming Entrance

In Feng Shui, the entrance is known as the “mouth of Chi”—the point where energy enters your home. If this space is cluttered or blocked, it can symbolically block new opportunities and fresh starts in your life.

At the event, I shared simple ways to enhance your entrance:

  • Keep it clean, clutter-free, and well-lit
  • Make sure your front door opens fully
  • Add something uplifting like a healthy plant or welcoming mat

These small adjustments help attract positive energy and set the tone for the rest of your home.

How to Create Flow in the Living Room with Feng Shui

The living room is where connection and communication happen. It's a social hub, and in Feng Shui, it’s important that this space allows for both comfort and free-flowing energy.

Here’s how to optimise it:

  • Arrange furniture to support conversation and openness
  • Avoid blocking pathways with bulky furniture
  • Use soft lighting and natural textures to encourage relaxation

Placing sofas and chairs so people aren’t sitting with their backs to the door also promotes a sense of ease and safety.

Feng Shui for Better Sleep: Balancing Your Bedroom

Your bedroom is where your energy is restored, so it should feel calm, grounding, and supportive. This is one of the most important rooms in Feng Shui for long-term wellbeing.

Tips we covered:

  • Position your bed in the “command position” (facing the door, but not directly in line with it)
  • Use a solid headboard and calming colours
  • Remove distractions like work devices or exercise equipment

Adding pairs of objects (lamps, cushions, side tables) can also enhance relationship harmony.

More Than Just Furnishings

This event was a wonderful opportunity to show that Feng Shui isn’t just about design—it’s about intention. When your space aligns with your energy and your goals, it becomes a powerful tool for transformation.

I hope I get invited back !
