Feng Shui Spring Cleaning Tips: My BBC Radio Solent Interview with Katie Martin

I recently had the opportunity to speak on BBC Radio Solent with Katie Martin about spring cleaning and Feng Shui, and how small changes in the home can support better energy flow and overall wellbeing.

It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and as this was my first time on the radio, I was a bag of nerves equally just as excited going it. My focus, though, was on sharing practical Feng Shui tips for the home that listeners could easily apply.

As we began speaking, I found myself quietly repeating, “I’m just talking to a friend.” It helped me stay grounded and present, and turned the experience into something much more natural and conversational.

What Is Feng Shui and How Does It Work?

During the interview, I explained that Feng Shui is about creating balance and harmony in your home by working with the flow of energy, often referred to as chi. When energy flows well through a space, it can positively influence how you feel, think, and live day to day.

Rather than being about perfection, Feng Shui focuses on making intentional adjustments that create a more supportive environment. This is why it aligns so naturally with spring cleaning in the UK, a time when many people feel ready to refresh their homes and clear stagnant energy.

Why Spring Cleaning Supports Energy Flow in the Home

Spring represents renewal and movement, making it an ideal time to reassess your space. From a Feng Shui perspective, clearing physical clutter also helps shift energetic stagnation, allowing new opportunities and ideas to flow more easily.

This doesn’t need to be overwhelming. In fact, simple and consistent actions often create the most meaningful results.

Three Simple Feng Shui Tips for Spring Cleaning

Here are three Feng Shui home tips I shared during the interview that can help improve the energy flow in your home:

1. Open Your Front and Back Door at the Same Time
If possible, opening both doors allows fresh energy to circulate through your home, clearing out stagnant or heavy energy. It’s one of the quickest ways to create an immediate shift in how your space feels.

2. Start Small with Decluttering
One of the most common barriers to spring cleaning is feeling overwhelmed. Instead of tackling the entire house, begin with one drawer or one corner—especially an area that feels energetically heavy. This creates momentum and makes the process more manageable.

3. Notice the Energy of Your Space
Feng Shui is as much about feeling as it is about form. Pay attention to how different areas of your home affect you. Spaces that feel calm and supportive are working well, while those that feel draining may need small adjustments.

A Practical Approach to Feng Shui at Home

Taking part in this conversation on BBC Radio Solent felt like a natural step in sharing Feng Shui in a more accessible way. It was an opportunity to show that improving your home’s energy doesn’t require dramatic change, just awareness and small intentional shifts.

If you’re exploring how to use Feng Shui in your home, spring is an ideal place to begin. By working with the natural rhythm of the season and making simple adjustments, you can create a space that feels more balanced, supportive, and aligned with where you’re heading.
